The Hootenannies' style of oddball quirk-rock has never fit snuggly under the patchwerk umbrella term "genre." People have noted similarities to widely different acts such as "Weird" Al Yankovic, Primus, Devo, Rush, Neutral Milk Hotel, and even They Might Be Giants...
...And since more people like these bands than Hootenannies, we decided to pick one and cover them - for exposure.
We drew straws, and They Might Be Giants emerged the victor.
Thus, we proudly introduce "Minimum Wage: A Tribute to TMBG"
Harry Braswell - Mandolin, Guitar, Keys, Lead Vocals
Benjamin Spencer Wescott - Bass, Guitar, Trumpet, Vocals
Nick "Tickles" Woehrle - Drums, Vocals
Hailing from Ft. Mill SC, Nick is a longtime fan of hard rock, punk, and prog bands, as well as the host of music that accompanies his favorite video games. An avid gamer, he enjoys MMORPGs, TTRPGs, FPSs, and idunno - like a bunch of other kinds. Dude games hard. Nice laptop - the whole deal. He treats the drums like he treats games: he plays to win.
Influences include Foo Fighters, Iron Maiden, Gorillaz, Queensrÿche The Offspring, and Alicia Keys.
Just kidding with that last one. Just checking to make sure yer paying attention.
By far the most "grounded" of the bunch, Ben has long assumed the title of "nanny" for the group. Being a french-horn guy in school, he quickly became a bass guitarist. I'm not really sure what the one has to do with the other, but here we are.
Citing influences like "Weird" Al Yankovic (coincidence? I think not), the B52s, Mr. Bungle, and the Pillows, you'll be sure to not hear any of them when you hear him play.
Yoga, exercise, meditation, and general nerd stuff is his bag. Figure it out.
Every band needs a truly fearless leader with boundless werk ethic, and an infectious charisma that inspires those around them to be their best.
Until we find one, Harry will have to do.
A quirky little fellow, with bizarre fashion sensibilities and a gimpy leg (also mild brain damage - see "11/11/11" by Harry Braswell on yer streaming platform.)
Harry enjoys cooking quesadillas, cleaning and repairing instruments of all types (hit him up to restring yer nasty old ibanez - Pappa's got mouths to feed), and writing long run-on sentences about himself in the third-person (the more parentheticals, the better.)
Musical influences include several from his conservative Christian upbringing (Five Iron Frenzy, Mewithoutyou, Newsboys), and then basically Primus, Rush, They Might Be Giants, and others named above. Please don't make me list them all again. Does anybody even read these things? What am I doing with my life?
